ABOUT THIS APPLICATION

Polycrystalline Ceramics

Lorad develops and manufactures powders specifically for advanced polycrystalline ceramic processing, including calcium lanthanum sulfide, CLS, for infrared transmitting ceramic systems. In optical ceramics such as CLS, overall chemical purity is only part of the powder requirement. Particle size distribution, morphology, agglomeration, phase purity, oxygen contamination, and powder homogeneity can all influence consolidation, residual porosity, and ultimately optical performance. Lorad's work in this area includes development of synthesis and powder processing methods intended specifically for downstream ceramic consolidation. The company can support ceramic material programs from initial composition development through scaled powder manufacturing.
