PERIODIC TABLE
Livermorium
About Livermorium
Livermorium is a synthetic, radioactive element in group 16, the periodic table family that also includes oxygen, sulfur and selenium. It was first successfully produced in 2000 through collaborative research involving the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, for which it is named. Its rapidly decaying isotopes are investigated to understand the structure and stability of superheavy nuclei. Placement in the same group as sulfur does not establish comparable practical chemistry, and livermorium has no commercial materials applications.
